What happens at a tutorial?

Tutorials are individual to you.  They are a great way to move your work forward quickly - they are  designed to provide you with the tools to create a portfolio of photography  or film - whatever your starting point.  I have over the last decade helped students move from "I've no idea" (and panic) to a great body of work that they are proud of creating.  One-to-one tutorials are great if you just want fresh eyes on your project or more in-depth support,  help over some hurdles, or expert advice on how to present your portfolio, or edit your film, in a cohesive and engaging way.

What time?

Each tutorial block is 1 hour, but .  We can also agree a time and place (unless we speak online - as then we shall be in our respective locations so don't need to agree "place") once payment is received.

Who will benefit from a 1-2-1 tutorial?

You do not have to have been on a course with me to book a tutorial. You can just think "I need some help, guidance or direction".  Anyone who wants a portfolio and needs either a short factual film or their photography to flow well:  For example, for university entry, final major project, personal project, or if you simply want to develop your skills at presenting your existing work in a great way.  Whether or not you already have work or ideas; whether its just to make you happy or for something more serious like maximizing your chances of getting into the University you dream of - and you need a bit of extra help - then Morag will be delighted to help you.

"Truly amazing tutor with great attention to detail and ideas of how to tell a story. I was in a rush to hit a deadline and she was able to work around my diary meaning the deadline was hit with a few days spare which was incredible as I never thought the film would be finished."

What should I expect?

Discussions to develop ideas and review and progress your work. In the tutorial - whether on line or in person - we can discuss anything from existing work to idea development or throw around new ideas that bring your work up to the next level. It doesn't matter what stage you are at - we can discuss structure and presentation; or we can discuss ideas or review the flow; we can chat about what to expect at interview and have trial runs at developing and practicing answers that work for you and your work. Tutorials are individual to you, just as you are to the world.

What should I bring?

The point of any tutorial is that you develop.  Whether we meet in person or on line -  it's best you bring your latest work so I can see it.  If you want me to review your work before we meet ie outside of tutorial time - then this is also chargeable in 1 hour blocks and payable before I start the review - any left over time can be used for tutorials.  In the tutorial we will discuss how you are getting on, any challenges you face and other ideas to help you get to the next stage of portfolio development. It's about what's best for you.

Please bring your ideas notebooks (if you have them) and a notebook with free pages in it (even a new one) if you don't - and a pen or pencil.  Also, you don't need it in the tutorial - but if we are meeting in person, don't forget your umbrella or waterproof coat for the journey - it is Edinburgh after-all.

What if I think I need more tutorials?

Sure, book as many as you think you need - though best to just book online in 1 or 2 hours slots as we go.  Sometimes people need more tutorials though.  One student recently had 8 hours online in total to help with finalising her short film for her final major project.  Before contacting me, she had got the film to an hour and a half edit and needed help getting it to 15 mins - which we did.  She booked in 4 hour blocks and some were for me to review the work, others to discuss the work with her.  Once I know what you are wanting to achieve we can discuss what the best approach is.  She's alsosuper happy with what she achieved.

The boring but important bit:

Tutorials are paid in advance (sorry I've been burnt before for non-payment) and if you cancel or decide not to take the tutorial within 2 weeks of our agreed date then  - there is no refund or discount.  If you needing to cancel up to two weeks before the agreed tutorial date you will have your fee returned less a 25% charge. Cancellations made less than two weeks before the day of the workshop are non-refundable. We can change the date by mutual agreement and I will be as flexible as I can.

"Morag is without doubt, one of the best tutors I have worked with"
